The Jewels of the Adriatic

hosted by Marc & Roz Bokoff

aboard the beautiful Explora II

August 10-17, 2026

Join us as we sail from Venice, Italy to Athens, Greece visiting an interesting array of ports along the way.

Golden canals wind through gilded palazzos in Venice, a city that warmly invites us to explore its far-reaching heritage as we sail onwards to Rovinj’s charming Croatian sparkle. In Dubrovnik, medieval walls give way to azure waters that stir your soul, and Brindisi opens your heart to Puglia’s historic natural beauty. Explore the quaint harbor of Fiskardo, Kefalonia’s pine-fringed gem and absorb Santorini’s iconic cliffs and caldera views before drawing into the city buzz of Athens.

You may have been to some of these places, but many are off the beaten track...and we can go there because our ship is just the right size to visit them! Spending a few extra days in magical Venice or exploring deeper beyond Athens will only make this special itinerary even more spectacular!

Leaving Venice, the ship sails to Rovinj, a small island in Croatia...then to the walled city of Dubrovnik. Next, we'll head to the heel of Italy's boot - Brindisi in lovely Puglia for a taste of Italy beyond the major cities and regions! From there, we will start our Greek odyssey, with a port call in Argostoli, near Kefalonia, where the glory of nature abounds. Next, a day at sea will rejuvenate us before arriving in beautiful Santorini where sunsets and romance rule the day. Finally, we will end our time aboard in Athens, the birthplace of Western Civilization!

You will enjoy the destinations as much as you enjoy the beautiful and luxurious Explora II along with delicious food, comfortable and well-appointed accommodations and common spaces, and impeccable service.

Be our guests on this wonderful journey!!

Ports of Call

Venice (Day 1)

Venice is the essence of romance. Along the Grand Canal, the city's "main street," you will see row upon row of Gothic-Renaissance homes and palaces. Most are hundreds of years old and house priceless works of art. Dozens of delicate bridges lead the visitor from one wonder to the next: The Basilica of St Mark, the Palace of the Doges, and the remarkable collection of modern art assembled by Peggy Guggenheim in the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni.
Attractions & Activities
Probably the most famous site in Venice is St. Mark's Basilica. Built to enshrine St. Mark's body in the 9th century, it was rebuilt in the 11th century with a new, spectacular edifice. The interior is clad in wonderful mosaics and holds statues, icons and its famous horses, brought to St. Mark's after the 4th Crusade in 1204.

Rovinj (Day 2)

In the past 40 years Rovinj has developed from a fishing village into a real tourist center thanks to its picturesque surroundings, its pleasant Mediterranean climate and its cultural-historical values.
Attractions & Activities
Feel the enchantment of the town in its narrow medieval streets and warm Mediterranean setting. The main Church of St. Euphemia keeps relics of the saint and presents one of the most beautiful Baroque achievements in Istria. From the church plateau there is a wonderful view of the open sea and numerous islets in the distance. A visit to the Rovinj Town Museum and the town's many galleries will complete your cultural experience.

Dubrovnik (Day 3)

This remarkable city on the Adriatic coast is an enduring example of strength and beauty. Dubrovnik is once again welcoming visitors, who are delighted to discover that it is still one of the finest examples of a walled medieval city.
Attractions & Activities
The old city of Dubrovnik and the walls that surround it have been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Portions of the wall date back to the 13th century. The ramparts are intact and encircle the old city with a circumference of more than 1.5 miles. Don't miss the chance to take a walking tour along its length for a spectacular view of the city it surrounds.

Brindisi (Day 4)

Set on a peninsula between two arms of the Adriatic Sea, Brindisi was an important port of the Roman Empire and, later, for the East India Company. In the second century BC the Appian Way was built, linking the port to Rome, and a column near the harbor marks the end of that famous route. Here, in 71 BC, the gladiator Spartacus led thousands of rebel slaves in an unsuccessful escape. Today visitors will find Romanesque churches, a 13th century castle and, in the surrounding Apulia region, remains of ancient Messapian culture.

Argostoli (Day 5)

Argostoli the capital of Kefalonia situated on a peninsular is a busy working port with ferries, private yachts and freight ships coming and going all year round. If you need to buy something this is where you will find it amongst the cosmopolitan pedestrian shopping streets, supermarkets, speciality shops and all manner of other businesses. This is where all the main business is done throughout the year especially when the winter comes and the island almost goes into hibernation! Argostoli still lives on.

Santorini (Day 7)

Perched at the very top of precipitous cliffs, Santorini towers above its original harbor and was once reached only by foot or mule. Today a cable car is the best route. The island scenery is unique in all the world with jagged outcroppings of red and black lava and stairways cut deep in the cliffsides. Buried under volcanic ash in a cataclysmic explosion during the 16th century BC, the ruins of ancient Thera are a great "find" for archaeologists.
Attractions & Activities
Santorini's spectacular caldera is a vestige of what was probably the biggest volcanic eruption in recorded history, believed by some to have caused the disappearance of Atlantis. The island's violent volcanic history is visible everywhere you look - in black-sand beaches, earthquake-damaged dwellings and raw cliffs of lava plunging into the sea.

Athens (Piraeus) (Day 8)

Piraeus is the port of Athens. Serving as the gateway to the past and civilization as we know it, Athens is far more than the Acropolis. Nowhere on earth are mans past accomplishments more dramatically displayed as a backdrop to a modern metropolis. Spend time exploring ancient ruins, viewing incalculable treasures or just relax as another day evolves in the cradle of civilization.
Attractions & Activities
No visit to Athens would be complete without a visit to the Acropolis. There you'll find the Parthenon, the largest building in the Acropolis and one of the world's most awe-inspiring sights. It was built as a temple to Athena and is still a remarkable structure today.
